Pesto is a wonderfully flavourful spread that works beautifully in salads, tossed through pasta, or simply smeared onto good bread. Classic pesto calls for rather pricey pine nuts, but in a homemade version you can easily swap them for more affordable alternatives — sunflower seeds work perfectly well.
